Reconstitution overview
Reconstitution means dissolving a freeze-dried material in a compatible diluent. The resulting concentration depends on the amount of material and the final solution volume.
- Identify the material. Confirm the compound, stated vial amount and product-specific handling documentation.
- Check the validated method. Diluent compatibility, preparation conditions and storage requirements vary. Follow your laboratory’s approved procedure and the supplier’s documentation; there is no universal preparation method.
- Record concentration. Use the documented material amount and final solution volume. A concentration calculation describes a solution—it does not establish a safe dose or suitability for use.
- Label and store appropriately. Record identity, concentration and preparation date, and follow validated storage and stability requirements. Do not assume every compound has the same shelf life.
Dosing and safety
A calculator cannot determine a safe dose, appropriate treatment or whether a compound is suitable for a person. Clinical dosing decisions belong with a qualified clinician using an approved medicine and its prescribing information—not a research vial.
